After the Fact

I have been interning for an event planning company named VIBEvents Group since January. Since then, I have learned about budgeting, planning events, timelines, and much more. I have even visited at least five venues and been given a tour in order to learn about the different venues so I will be able to refer friends or clients. I have gained a greater sense of commitment, responsibility as well as knowledge by working with Veronica at VIBEvents Group. It has helped me to gain knowledge and experience in the actual field that I am interested in.

I may have been better prepared for my internship by getting in my hours early. I thought that I would have a lot of time to get my hours in, however, the semester came to a close extremely fast. I had all of my hours mapped out until I got sick and then Veronica got sick so the hours fell short and I had to struggle to readjust at the end of the semester while having to lots of school work to finish up. Therefore, my biggest suggestion would be to get as many hours in at the beginning of the semester just in case something comes up.

Some examples of growth that I have experienced during my internship would definitely be courage and communication. I realized that I was more courageous than I thought that I could be when I contacted Veronica and found an internship by myself. At first, I wished that the class would just place me with someone and find the internship for me because I was nervous, however, it was more rewarding since I found it by myself. Also, somewhere along the way this semester, I have found that it is easier for me to communicate with people. I used to be very nervous with any interaction and this semester, I realized that I am not nervous anymore and I enjoy communicating with people and learning about what they do for a living as well as what they like.

I believe I have improved my professional presence by completing Comm 368 ePortfolio mainly because it is something that shows potential employers a glimpse of who I am and why I would be a valuable employee. I, also had my ePortfolio reviewed by a Communications professor who gave me valuable insight on how to make the ePortfolio even better. Overall, I believe this internship experience has been nothing but positive and helpful.
